L'Arte die Passeggiare

The Italian word "passeggiare" can be translated as to walk, promenade, or stroll for pleasure of letting the time pass. “Passeggio", a technique widely used in Renaissance music, is derived from this. In “passeggio”, well-known songs are decorated with improvised embellishments and virtuoso runs. In this programme, we stroll through lively southern European dance movements of the early Baroque, Renaissance songs ornamented with elaborate "passaggi" and experimental early sonatas. Even though this music is already 400 years old, it still sounds freshly coloured, approachable and captivating.

Music by D. Castello, F. Caccini, G. Frescobaldi, O. di Lasso, D. Ortiz, B. de Selma y Salaverde among others

Do you want to be a witch?

Matilda is 8 years old and has a very special friend: Mileva. Matilda thinks her friend must be hundreds of years old because she knows thousands of stories. One day Matilda asks her a question: are you a witch? But what is a witch? Together with the audience, both friends will go on the trail of extraordinary women in history with the help of projected images, music and a recorded voice. Charles Burney's Europe trips

250 years ago, the British musicologist Charles Burney travelled through Europe to get an idea of the "present state" of music. With a pack of letters of recommendation in his luggage, he set off to visit Jean-Jacques Rousseau in France, hear the young Mozart in Italy and meet Johann Adolf Hasse, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, Voltaire and many other musicians and great personalities of the time. We paint a colourful picture of the 18th century with Burney's vivid, sometimes biting, amusing and apt descriptions of his experiences and pieces music he actually heard or that were written by composers he met.

With music by CPE Bach, WA Mozart, W. von Bayreuth and A. Vivaldi, among others. With anecdotes and texts from Charles Burney's diaries. The program can be performed with or without a speaker.
