PROGRAMME
CHARLES BURNEYS EUROPAREISE
250 years ago, the British musicologist Charles Burney travelled through Europe to get an idea of the "present state" of music. With a pack of letters of recommendation in his luggage, he set off to visit Jean-Jacques Rousseau in France, hear the young Mozart in Italy and meet Johann Adolf Hasse, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, Voltaire and many other musicians and great personalities of the time. We paint a colourful picture of the 18th century with Burney's vivid, sometimes biting, amusing and apt descriptions of his experiences and pieces music he actually heard or that were written by composers he met.
Music by C.P.E. Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Charles Burney, Antonio Vivaldi, Johann Adolf Hasse and others. All Arrangements by the ensemble. Anecdotes and texts from Charles Burney's diaries. This program can be performed with or without actor.
L'ARTE DI PASSEGGIARE
The Italian word "passeggiare" can be translated as to walk, promenade, or stroll for pleasure of letting the time pass. “Passeggio", a technique widely used in Renaissance music, is derived from this. In “passeggio”, well-known songs are decorated with improvised embellishments and virtuoso runs. In this programme, we stroll through lively southern European dance movements of the early Baroque, Renaissance songs ornamented with elaborate "passaggi" and experimental early sonatas. Even though this music is already 400 years old, it still sounds freshly coloured, approachable and captivating.
Music by D. Castello, F. Caccini, G. Frescobaldi, O. di Lasso, D. Ortiz, B. de Selma y Salaverde a.o.
